Introduction
Exercise is an essential element that enhances human adaptation and improves the
performance of the physical activity. Human walking is an essential part of the exercise that entails
a complex paradigm involving the coordination of different muscles. The muscle activities are
coupled with each other leaving room for flexibility and adaptability. The inputs or coordination
of muscles encompass interaction with the spinal cord and other muscles where the level of control
arises pointwise (Manoonpong, Geng, Kulvicius, Porr, & Wörgötter, 2007). Besides, an individual
can also impose more strength to enhance the speed and also improve the steps in the walking
process. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a disorder that affects nerves in the brain that are responsible
for body movement. Walking can be difficult for people diagnosed with PD. Ideally, PD results in
the death of the dopamine-production neurons which results in symptoms such as slowness,
tremor, stiffness and poor body balance (Lin & Wagenaar, 2018). As the disease progresses, the
walking control tends to be slower and smaller. The patient takes slow and reduced steps. In some
extreme cases, the PD patients walk slowly with their chests bent forward (Reuter, Leone, Kaps,
& Engelhardt, 2011). Also, the patient may experience freezing moments where he or she is unable
to take a step. While there is no treatment for PD, healthcare professionals can propose
management techniques that can help the patients improve mobility. Upon diagnosis, a physical
therapist can recommend the robot-assisted gait in training techniques to help the patients improve
their movement. The primary goal of the introduction of this measurement is to the PD patient to
maintain a maximum level of activity, mobility, and independence (Alwardat, et al., 2018).
Ustinova, Chernikova, Bilimenko, & Epstein (2011), researched the impact of robot locomotive
training on PD patients. This study concluded that the training results in improved gait speed
enhanced stride length and foot clearance over the ground.

The process of human walking involves the combination of various components which
include; legs, foot, hill strike, support for toe lift, toe off and swing. These components are
enhanced by various inputs such as brain muscles, leg muscles, the spinal cord and force. Ideally,
these muscles interact with each other to allow an individual to move from one point to the other.
Besides, these inputs can be affected by PD. As such, the element of robot aided training can be
introduced to help improve patient mobility. The robot training is characterized with various
elements such as applied torque, power supply, speed control, efficient training path and torque
control. The application of these inputs and the robot aided training technique contributes to
increased walk speed, enhanced patients’ strides, complete dependence of the patient, improved
body posture and enhanced level of activity.
