The research topic that I chose for this research paper is abortion laws. Abortion is a
medical practice that is controlled in the United States because it is governed by some laws.
The topic of abortion laws matches the criteria of this assignment in that it entails some legal
and ethical aspects. The religious and conservative supporters of President Donald Trump are
against this practice and do not want its proliferation in the United States. Considering the
prominence and rapid growth of Protestantism in the United States, the topic of abortion
entails some ethical issues that can be interesting to discuss and analyze. This analysis will be
based on some Bible teaching and social and community values and beliefs in the United
States. The second aspect of this research will be the discussion of the legal aspect of
abortion. According to Jones and Jerman (2017), the laws governing abortion are perceived to
be completely in favor of abortion and legalizing the practice in all circumstances. However,
in the United States’ medical system, abortion laws state the conditions, circumstances, and
places under which abortion can legally be carried. These specific terms and conditions
associated with abortion are mostly unknown from the public including some health
practitioners. Therefore, it is important to discuss the matter of abortion laws in the context of
medical practices because it entails some standards and guidelines with which all medical
practitioners must comply. Failing to comply with these standards might result in terrible
consequences for both medical practitioners and patients.
The first possible subtopic of this research paper can be the review and discussion of
all specific criteria and standards associated with abortion laws in the United States. This
research might represent a large effort because of the variety of states’ laws regarding the
topic. However, some similarities in the elaboration of these laws can be found so that the
range of search and analysis can be narrowed down. Through this review, important
knowledge will be gained on the main conditions and standards governing the practice of

abortion in the United States. Further, these standards will be analyzed and discussed based
on their relevance and feasibility in the United States’ medical system.
The second subtopic that can be discussed in this research paper regards the impact of
abortion laws on the delivery of healthcare to pregnant women. It is well known that
pregnancies entail some complications related to several factors. These factors could be, for
instance, the health condition of the mother, the environment in which she lives, her culture
and alimentation among other factors (Ganatra & Faundes, 2016). These complications might
also originate from more intricate factors such as the mental, psychological, and psychiatric
state of the patients. In all these cases, the lives of the children are at state and medical
practitioners might face legal and ethical dilemmas. Therefore, it is important to research the
practical relevance of abortion laws for medical practitioners.
The first article to support this research is the study of Ganatra and Faundes, (2016)
regarding the reduction of maternal mortality. More specifically, the authors analyze the
impact of some parameters such as abortion and post-abortion services on maternal mortality.
This article will be of great interest because it can allow gaining knowledge of the practical
nature and importance of these laws. The second article is the research of Jones and Jerman
(2017) on the availability of maternal services in the United States. In this article, the authors
discuss several abortion laws and their legal implications. It is a good source of information to
have an overview of the different abortion laws and texts in the United States.

The possible research questions to explore in this research paper are the following:
1- What are the legal and practical implications of abortion laws in the American
healthcare system?
2- What is the impact of abortion laws standards in the delivery of maternal care and
the reduction of maternal mortality?
