“This is where you will upload your final Personal Statement of Learning submission. You should attach your Personal Statement of Learning in a Word document format and upload it here.

Background:

Each week, you will respond to a prompt; your 400-600 word response will be your explanation and summary of what you have learned about that week’s given topic and any insights that you have had with regard to the material. (Each week’s specific assignment will appear on both the Modules and the Assignments tabs.)

Learning is valuable insofar as it is personal and retained. This assignment is intended to help you reflect upon what you are learning, consider its implications, and integrate the course material into a meaningful whole.

Instructions:

At the conclusion of the course, you should assemble your 13 weeks of Personal Statements of Learning reflections into one document. You should include an introduction and a conclusion.

You will be graded on your writing, your distillation of the course materials, and your articulation of your integration of course concepts. A rubric is provided here for your reference in completing this project. You will note on the rubric that there are points assigned for your subject matter knowledge, the organization of your paper, the format and editing (including grammar and spelling) and your sources/references.

Directions for Preparing Your Final Submission:

By the end of Week 13, you will have 13 Personal Statements of Learning (one for each week of content thus far). You should do the following:

If you have not yet done so, pull up the documents that cover SHRM’s and HRCI’s professional certification requirements to familiarize yourself with them.
Compile your 13 weeks of Personal Statements into one document.
To get the most points possible for your paper, you should go back through your document to check for the following:
In each of the 13 segments, did you fully explain what you learned and provide any relevant examples?
Did you incorporate the SHRM and HRCI competencies and bodies of knowledge, respectively? (In other words, if you are writing about human resources in a global context, you would note that one of SHRM’s competencies, “Global and Cultural Effectiveness,” would certainly be required of HR practitioners in this area.)
Next, look at your paper for transitions from one topic to another. Did you note in each of the 13 subject areas where each area impacts another area? (For example, when you are writing about job analysis, you would note that job analysis – which produces the job description – also impacts recruiting and selecting, training, performance management, and so on.) Writing about the impacts of one aspect of HR to other aspects of HR can provide easy transitions in your document.
You must cite all sources, including your textbook. Your bibliography should include the text and at least three professional or academic sources. A “professional” source would include a professional publication by the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) or an professional level business publication (for example, the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Journal of Management, or something similar).
Finally, you’ll need to write your introduction and conclusion. In your conclusion, you should include what has been most meaningful to you personally in terms of what you believe you will take and apply to your life post-APU.
In terms of length, remember that each Personal Statement of Learning that you prepared was to have been between 400 – 600 words . . . so there are 13 segments of 400 – 600 words each, plus an introduction and a conclusion.

Finally, a word about format. This document is a summation of your personal learning, so it is ultimately for your purposes. As such, you can use either APA or MLA format, whichever you find easier and more natural to use.”
