Interview Results
Workplace stress and coping mechanism is the research topic that I used to interview a counselor
and a consumer psychologist who I chose at a random for the interview. The following are some
of the questions that I interviewed them together with the responses that I received.
Research Questions
1. What is the most stressful situation you have ever faced at work?
2. How did you handle that stress?
3. How do you prevent a situation to get too stressful to manage?
4. Can you describe a time when stress resulted to you making errors at the workplace?
5. How do you ensure that a stressful situation happening in your personal life do not affect
your performance at work?
Interviewee 1: Counselor
1. What is the most stressful situation you have ever faced at work?
Counselor: I once had a client who had dissociative identity. Clearly, this individual had
serious problems and it affected me since I never knew people had such serious issues in life.
For that whole week, I had to take sleeping pills to sleep.
2. How did you handle that stress?
Counselor: Handling that situation was not an easy task. For that whole week, I had to take
sleeping pills to sleep. Later on, I got used to it and got over it.
3. How do you prevent a situation to get too stressful to manage?
Counselor: To prevent a situation from getting too stressful, I think about the happy things
that keep me going. Mostly, I think about my family and the love they have for me and how I
love them back.
4. Can you describe a time when stress resulted to you making errors at the workplace?
Counselor: There was this one time I had issues with my husband and he had decided to
leave me alone at home with the kids for a week. I was so broken inside. During that period, I
got a client and instead of the client presenting her problems, I started crying. Now, I became
the one requiring counselling!

5. How do you ensure that a stressful situation happening in your personal life do not
affect your performance at work?
Counselor: Before going to work, I make sure that I have handled all my issues. This helps
me go to work consciously knowing that I have my stuff handled in my life.
Interviewee 2: Consumer Psychologist
1. What is the most stressful situation you have ever faced at work?
Consumer psychologist: There was this time the manager told me that I was the worst
employee he had ever met in his life and that I was in the wrong career. His statement made
me feel like I knew nothing.
2. How did you handle that stress?
Consumer psychologist: I kept my cool and assumed he was having a bad day hence trying
to relieve his stress by talking trash to people. Within minutes, I was back to normal and the
pain I had was all gone.
3. How do you prevent a situation to get too stressful to manage?
Consumer psychologist: To prevent a situation from getting too serious, I start solving the
situation the moment I realize I am about to have a nervous breakdown. This way, I never
have serious issues piling up.
4. Can you describe a time when stress resulted to you making errors at the workplace?
Consumer psychologist: A friend died in an accident last year January and this issue
affected me so much since I was so close to her. This issue made me make errors at the
workplace. That day, I had to be dismissed by the manager to go clear my head.
5. How do you ensure that a stressful situation happening in your personal life do not
affect your performance at work?
Consumer psychologist: To ensure that personal life stress do not affect my performance at
work, I first resolve my issue before going to work. This works all the time, you should also
try it!
Results Analysis
From the interview I conducted, I realized that all people experience stress, most
surprisingly, even the counselors who go to when we are stressed. I realized that work is
4
accompanied with a lot of stress which can all be coped. From the interview with the counselor,
she believed that sleeping off makes someone forget about stressful situations. She also believed
that thinking about happy situations also makes someone forget and cope stress. Lastly, the
counselor believed that going to work stress free is a good technique that makes someone avoid
personal issues to affect work.
From the interview I conducted with the consumer psychologist, I realized that she did
not take things that can make her get stressed seriously so that she does not get stressed from
them. I found this technique efficient since it does not require a lot of thinking. She also believes
in solving her issues as fast as they come so that they do not pile up and become unsolvable.
Lastly, the consumer psychologist and the counselor had a similar way of ensuring that situations
happening in her personal life do not affect her work performance. All she did was solve the
issue before going to work.
