Writing Assignment

You are an attorney representing a U.S. company, Electro Co, that makes electronic products, including mobile phones and GPS devices for cars. The company has identified retailers in the NAIOS states that will sell their phones. Electro Co is concerned that the recent legislation adopted by the NAIOS states will make it difficult for them to sell their goods to these retailers at a profit. Electro Co has asked you for a memo outlining the potential legal claims that could be brought by the United States against any or all of the NAIOS states under the GATT/WTO agreement.

Please draft a memo to the President of Electro Co outlining the potential violations of international trading rules that U.S. might bring against each of the NAIOS states. In drafting your memo, be sure to aIDress violations of MFN, NTO and any potential violations of the prohibition against quotas and NTB.

MFN= mostfavoured nation
NTO = national treatment obligation
NTB= Non-tariff barriers to trade
Quotas= limitation import quantity
