One of the reasons why the US should allow immigrants to become citizens is because they helped the country to become the most powerful country in the world by contributing to the growth of the economy through the development of industries and cities (Sherman). They achieved that by working at high rates as they formed almost a third of the total workforce. As such, they helped the local economies to respond to shortages of workers which could have weakened the economy. The ethos in such an argument is evidenced by the fact that it has credibility as it is supported by prominent individuals such as President Obama. That is because he stated that even though there is a need to secure the borders, the immigrants currently in the US should be given a chance to apply for citizenship (Pro-Immigration Reform).
